About

I trained as a painter at Glasgow School of Art, moved to the North East of England and became interested in the history of that region's art.
My PhD was entitled entitled "Picturing Locality : Art and Regional Identity in the North-East of England , 1822-1900."
As an artist I seek subject matter both in the everyday of my own locality and in more far-flung locations. I am known for brightly coloured watercolours of buildings, boats and street scenes.
I was elected an Associate Member of the Royal Watercolour Society in 2007.
I have been an active member of the Bewick Society since 1998, becoming Chairman in 2010.
