About

I'm an Associate Lecturer with the Open University in the North of England and Subject Area Leader in Literature at the North East Centre for Lifelong Learning in Newcastle upon Tyne.  My PhD was a feminist re-reading of cyberpunk fiction and my current research is on aspects of embodiment in science fiction and fantasy narratives, with a focus on the “cult” action heroine in television.

Recent publications:

' "I'm Different...Special": The Body of the Superhero' in Investigating Heroes: Essays on Truth, Justice and Quality TV  ed. David Simmons (McFarland, 2011).

"Angels, Demons and Damsels in Distress: The Representation of Women in Supernatural" in TV Goes to Hell ed. Abbott and Lavery (ECW, 2011).

“Mind, Body, Imprint: Cyberpunk Echoes in the Dollhouse” in Slayage: The Journal of the Whedon Studies Association (Summer/Fall 2010).
